Indoor air quality in office buildings


Tertiary buildings often face problems related to a lack of air renewal, a drift of the filtration system or an inadequate maintenance of air treatment and distribution systems. Air quality parameters such as CO2 or particles are indicators to warn about such drifts. The occupant complaints feeling a malaise in their workplace are also frequently encountered. This is the phenomenon called “Sick Building Syndrome”. Therefore it is essential to evaluate at least once a year indoor air quality in offices and, ideally, at different times (summer and winter). Société Générale has implemented the monitoring of indoor air quality in its office buildings. As an independent company, OFIS has been commissioned to evaluate the effectiveness of operation conducted on ventilation systems.

OUR EXPERTISE:

OFIS yearly conducts measurement campaigns of physical parameters (temperature, relative humidity, particles, etc.), chemical parameters (formaldehyde, benzene, etc.) and microbiological parameters (bacterial flora, fungal flora, etc.) at different points of air systems (air handling units, air outlets, offices ambient air).
 

A report containing the analytical results with graphs and comments, conclusions and recommendations for action is provided at the end of each audit.

The control at all levels of the air handling system allows us to precisely locate the observed degradation. Adjustments can be made for instance at the air handling unit, by optimizing the ratio fresh air / recycled air or by improving the efficiency of filtration and its maintenance. A servo-ventilation to a detection system of different air quality parameters can significantly solve common problems. For example, the monitoring of CO2 is used to detect air renewal issues. This is the principle of online monitoring associated with the automation that is promoted by OFIS.
