Balancing networks of collective housing buildings

Balancing heating networks

Operators such as DALKIA have objectives on the energy performance of the facilities they manage. The optimization of the operation of heating systems is one of the potential sources of energy savings. According to the ADEME figures, a decrease of 1°C in the average temperature saves 7% on heating costs. In unbalanced networks, to achieve a minimum temperature of 19°C in all apartments, the heater setting must be increased which causes excessive temperatures in some apartments. The total balancing of networks homogenizes temperatures in apartments, reduces the average temperature and generates at least 10% energy savings. OFIS was commissioned by DALKIA to conduct a specific diagnosis on Doyen Gosse Residence in order to improve the performance of heating networks.

OFIS conducted an identification of heating systems and existing balancing valves and determined the characteristics of heated apartments.

From data collected on site, heat losses and flow rates to be applied in each loop are calculated. The compatibility of the pumps in place is also checked.

A distribution diagram with valves and settings to be applied is provided at the end of this study.

After the balancing of networks performed by DALKIA, OFIS conducts a flow measurement campaign and adjusts the settings if necessary.

OFIS also conducts a measurement campaign in apartments in winter to control the temperature uniformity.
