Bangkok, Thailand - On October 10th, Seureca will take part in the Bangkok Plastics Week, an event organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA).
Seureca is the technical implementing partner of ADB for the organisation of the regional event that will be held on the 10th of October, and titled "Strategies for Plastic Waste Data Collection and Management: Foundations for National and City Action Plans." This capacity development initiative serves as a platform for learning best practices, tools, and approaches for monitoring plastic pollution and marine litter. It is designed to equip participants ─ mainly representatives from government agencies and city administrations from the region ─ with the knowledge and expertise necessary for country-specific, evidence-based actions tailored to specific country contexts.
This event is part of the larger Technical Assistance project "Promoting Action on Plastic Pollution from Source to Sea in Asia and the Pacific" implemented by Seureca for the ADB.
The event will bring together government officials from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the People's Republic of China, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam and various agencies responsible for spearheading efforts to combat plastic pollution and achieve plastic circularity. Notably, experts from renowned organizations such as WWF, the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will be actively participating. In addition to these organizations, technical solution providers and universities will also contribute their expertise to further the cause.

Recently, Seureca took part in the Bangkok Plastics Week workshop, uniting experts and stakeholders to address the critical issue of plastic pollution in the South East Asia region.
The workshop highlighted the urgent need for a standardized system for plastic waste management and data availability to governments. Gaps in national plastic waste #data management were identified, particularly in sub-cities or towns. Private sector reporting models for #environmental & social data were discussed and seen as promising solutions.
Emphasis was placed on the significance of harmonized regional plastic waste data, transparency, and the enforcement of regulations, in anticipation of future Global Plastics Treaty reporting requirements. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) expressed its continued support on this and other efforts to reduce marine plastic pollution.
In conjunction with ADB and COBSEA, Seureca aims to pave the way for effective strategies and actions to reduce marine plastic pollution, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
